Chicken on a Skateboard

It’s a remote control chicken on a skateboard. It is rad. It’s name is Hennessy, a Lohmann Brown. Actually there are two of them. Count Bockula is a Master Grey and a Goofy-Foot. ABD? Not this. So lock in fam, cause we’re loosening the toe angle, and dropping in the coop.

Refresh your terminology : Chicken words / Skate words / RC car words

MATERIALS

RC CAR : DEERC 9206E DIY Extra Shell 1:10 Scale Hobby Grade High Speed Remote Control Car. This is the perfect size RC car for a normal sized skate board. 1:10 scale. It’s got enough punch to move and is perfect as an entry level hobby version with all the specific parts. We specifically looked for an RC car that had a simply removable shell so we could slap a board on it.

SKATE BOARD : I walked into the local skate shop and said, “My boss wants me to make a remote control chicken on a skate board. Do you have any super beat up decks with no wheels?” And like the absolute legends that they are, Prestige Skateshop handed me two beautifully beat up decks. One of which was an old deck of the owner. Rad.

CHICKENS : After an exhaustive amazon search our director Maggie found three chickens she liked. They look amazing, but are just Styrofoam with real feathers glued on. So... they don’t take a fall very well, but it’s nothing a little spray foam can’t fix. We just drilled some holes in the decks and lashed the chicken feet on with some 12g wire.

3D PRINTING : This is key. It took us a few attempts to get the connection between the RC Car and deck correct. We didn’t want to mount the deck onto the little nubs that held the RC Car shell on because those nubs are a part of the shocks, and we just knew we were going to crash this immediately, so we designed a connection that fits into the RC Car bumper pieces, which are made to take hits. Specifically the parts PX9211-06 and PX9211-08A. We’re not 100% happy with these but they do the work.

One thing we noticed after our first crash is that the 3D print breaks very easily along the layer lines, so we changed the orientation of the print and it is MUCH stronger. 3D prints have grain ya’ll, use it to your advantage.

Various prototypes we made that could not hang with our steez

Feel free to download and print these. Or change them, or whatever. Are you really going to also make an rc skateboard? If you do, send us a picture.

NEXT STEPS : We are in talks with a local diner that wants to make a ‘Mario Cart’ style track in their parking lot and have folks race the birds. We are so down.
