Frog Flingin’ Fun

Fling-a-Frog : An interactive lawn game for Flywheel Fest 2025

Author : Kyle, MAKE Studio Technician

People are always asking, “What’s hopping at JUMP?” and until now, my answer has never been literal.
But that changed today with Fling-a-Frog, a new lawn game we’ve created for our upcoming Flywheel Festival.

Fling-a-Frog will join an incredibly fun lineup of existing lawn games set up for the festival, such as Flywheel Toss, Tractor Pull and Duck, Duck, Fish. While the rules of the game are quite simple - aim for flies in the air and lily pads on the ground, the game is surprisingly challenging. The frog launcher is a spring with a lily pad shaped platform for you to load the amphibian of your choice (just frogs). Now, pull back, aim and launch!

This was fun game to create in the MAKE Studio. We managed to repurpose scrap wood to make simple pond decorations. Cutting out stencils to for painting the lily pads and frogs was a breeze on our laser cutter. One of my favorite details of this game was entirely accidental. While making a “dock” for the frog launcher, I discovered the popsicle sticks making up the boards of the dock could be played like a kalimba, sounding like the patter of rain drops.

Fling-a-Frog debuts at JUMP’s Flywheel Fest, September 20, 2025! Challenge your friends to see who can be the King Frog, who rules the lilypads and eats all the flies.
