Safety Videos for Refugees
We have embarked on an interesting project as part of our Non-profit Showcase program. The Idaho Office For Refugees asked if we could help make videos for their newly resettled clients. These videos would not only teach them how to use their appliances safely, but they also teach the newly settled refugees how not to break the various appliances and systems in their new homes that they may be unfamiliar with. These videos could save lives and save the newly resettled members of our community thousands of dollars in bills that could accrue really fast if they broke an appliance soon after their arrival simply because they didn’t know how to use it.
What makes this project particularly interesting is that our goal is to be able to overdub any language over the video content, allowing us to quickly modify the videos with a new language when needed. This requires some thought on our part to be sure that the content can synch with a language that is more syllabic than another. Think Japanese vs. English. Saying the same thing in Japanese will no doubt take longer. Ai is not capable of doing this well enough yet, so we are building protocols into our system of filming, recording audio and post production so we can do this efficiently.
The goal is to have a massive library of helpful videos that can be used over and over again to support our new neighbors.
We couldn’t do these videos if it weren’t for our network of filmmakers in our “Freelancing for Good” program. Each participant volunteers their time to learn filmmaking skills on-set creating meaningful content for nonprofits. A massive thanks to our volunteers! You are the best!
