JUMP into new perspectives
Journey through JUMP photography teacher, Christie Abel shared her joy of photography with campers (ages 8-15) and encouraged them to slow down and take a look at the world through the viewfinder of “old-school” point and shoot cameras. She taught the basics of photo composition that opens up endless opportunities within each shot: rule of thirds, framing, leading lines, vanishing points, golden ration, lines and patterns, symmetry, repetition, rule of odds, negative space, fill the frame, color, focus, etc. And, more importantly she shared how photography has been such a big part of her life, from graphic design for newspaper ads, magazine articles, medium format photography location shoots for different products and marketing, model shoots, museum exhibitions, storytelling … and overall, a sense of wonder, awe and joy when she is able to embody a sense of connection and deep reverence with the subject that she photographs.
