Filming Rehearsal with Kody Newton

We’re coming up on our “No Signal” shoot in less than two weeks, and this last Saturday our Dreamweaver crew got ready by rehearsing filming with our director Kody Newton. Gathering in our SKIP Building, Kody led our crew through assembling his personal film gear - which we will be using for the shoot.

To rehearse for “No Signal”, we pulled a page from the script and prepared to shoot it inside SKIP. For the purpose of practice we used the shelves and tables inside SKIP to replicate the location of a retro game store. Kody blocked out the scene with our actors and stand-ins, while our assistant directors placed extras in the background of the scene. We broke the scene into three sections and shot each section with an A and B camera setup. Our grips moved the cameras and lighting into place where Kody wanted them, and our assistant camera team operated the cameras and kept focus while we shot out the scene.

We had a one-page scene to shoot, with four speaking roles, and working with Kody we pulled it off in just under two hours from beginning to end. On location it will be more complicated, with more extras and more moving parts, but our team is ready to do it!

Here’s the footage we got:

“No Signal” shoots on the 20th through 23rd, and we couldn’t be more excited for it!

This Saturday, Kody’s feature film “2:59” premieres at the Egyptian Theatre! Show him some love by buying a ticket and attending! Get your tickets at the Egyptian Theatre’s website today!
